Gen Z is bold and brave. And we are here for it.
Gen Z may be the youngest one to join in the dating game (on the legal perspective), but that doesn’t mean that they’re the underdogs.
It’s completely normal for new adults to download dating apps, and DOWN Hookup App is the fastest-growing dating app for Gen Z users. Since COVID, Gen Z users have more than doubled! Over the past 2 years, Gen Z surpassed 50% of the dating pool on DOWN – overtaking Millennials at a close second.
What is DOWN App?
DOWN is the most honest dating app, and the #1 hookup app to meet locals nearby. People get to choose whether they want a casual relationship or a more serious one. DOWN’s goal is to make the world a more open-minded, sex-positive place where singles can express themselves freely and find what they really want.

DOWN aims to create a safe dating space for users to be themselves and find the kind of connections they want. By 2022, the number of matches made by Gen Z increased by over 550%, and the same-gender match rate increased by over 800%.

The Dealbreakers in Dating According to Gen Z
Everybody has preferences when it comes to dating, and we asked 1000 Gen Zs what is a dealbreaker for them. We gave them 6 options and told them to score them from 1-10, here are the results:
- Inconsistencies: 8/10
Inconsistencies as in they might show their affection at one point but then ignore them the next. Their attention, affection, and all of that is not constant which can confuse others.
- One sided-ness: 9/10
One sided-ness means despite having someone to talk to or spend the time with, you constantly feel like you’re talking to a wall. “How are you today?” “Good.” “Did you eat yet?” “Yes.” A wall.
- Rude to anyone in the service industry: 7/10
This is a big no-no because of the golden rule: you don’t fuck with people who handle your food. Why? People think it’s because they might tamper with your food, which almost never happens unless you’re just a horrible person, but people in the service industry already have it hard enough. People make mistakes, you don’t need to be rude and embarrass them in public. You’re only embarrassing yourself.
- Bad hygiene: 10/10
Has the highest score out of all of them. This doesn’t need any explanation, clean up after yourself and clean yourselves, please. Brushing your teeth before bed is not that difficult.
- Not wanting children: 5/10
Gen Z is split between this one. In this economy, having children can be quite expensive and not that affordable. But also, having kids is no longer a norm, whereas in the past it was seen as a way to have someone to take care of you when you’re old, a lot of Gen Z don’t feel the same way. They think that if they’re gonna have kids, it should be because they want kids.
- Conflicting values: 7/10
It could be religion, ideology, politics, some things in life that people generally have different opinions on. It doesn’t mean that one side is bad and the other is right, it’s not black and white, but for some people conflicting values do make it difficult to stay in a relationship.
What Do Gen Zs Want In A Partner?
Someone who goes to the gym.
The gym culture is getting even trendier nowadays. Sometimes, it’s even seen as odd if someone doesn’t go to the gym at all, which shouldn’t be the case. This could be seen as Gen Z looking for a partner that’s healthy, fit, cares about their well-being instead of Gen Z looking for a partner whose physical traits fit a certain mold.
Someone stylish/fashionable.
It’s important to dress for the occasion. But at the end of the day, being stylish or fashionable is always a personal preference. Everybody has their own style, and no matter what you dress like, there’s always going to be someone who doesn’t like it.
Active social media.
These days it’s almost impossible for fellow Gen Zs to not have active social media. Everyone is on Instagram, and if you don’t have one it might even come off as suspicious.
There are plenty of other qualities Gen Z thinks are important in a partner. But at the end of the day, we’re all just looking for the one in our lives and it all concludes with finding a decent person.
Ultimately, Gen Z is transforming the dating game by taking charge of their love lives and their bodies. With DOWN App’s support, Gen Z is challenging traditional dating norms and redefining what it means to be in a relationship. As the first digitally native generation, their impact on the dating world is sure to continue for years to come, and DOWN is the dating app for Gen Z to break ground.
